Canadian engineering firm Stantec has bought its UK-based engineering design rival Hydrock, in a move that it said would strengthen its UK offering.

The deal to buy the 950-strong Hydrock, headquartered in Bristol, England, immediately grows Stantec鈥檚 workforce in the UK by more than 30%, it said.

Hydrock was founded in 1995 and has 22 UK locations, providing solutions to major projects in the public and private sectors. It has capabilities in fire safety, energy and sustainability, civil and structural, MEP, transport, environmental and geotechnical services.

Stantec said the move would bolster its offering in the energy, buildings, and infrastructure markets, as well as the wider built environment.

Gord Johnston, Stantec鈥檚 president and chief executive officer said, 鈥淲e look forward to welcoming the Hydrock team to Stantec.

鈥淲hen combined with the strategic acquisitions of Zetcon and Morrison Hershfield, we will have grown our global workforce by over 2,700 people within the first four months of 2024, further strengthening our offering in line with market demands.鈥
