Kiloutou launches machine sharing technology

Kiloutou is rolling out a new system in France that will allow contractors to share machines on a single site.

The Konnect system works with an RFID enabled card that gives the holder access to the machine through its telematics box. Contractors can configure each machine for a 鈧150 charge and then issue RFID multiple cards, each costing 鈧20, to cover an entire site.

The solution is currently being used on five sites in the Hauts-de-France and Occitanie regions and is now being rolled-out nationally, with customers able to add Konnect as an option on their rental contracts.

Nicolas Guilbaud, Kiloutou regional sales director, said; 鈥淥n sites where there is a lot of co-activity, we have noticed that equipment can be a source of tension.

鈥淜onnect is a very pragmatic solution, a response to a real problem on everyday worksites. It鈥檚 particularly useful in the finishing phases of construction projects, where there are sometimes a lot of people involved.鈥

Kiloutou said machines are often shared between employees of different contractors or sub-contractors, but this can give rise to problems, such as machines being used without explicit authorisation, machine being moved on site, or where the fuel or battery is empty. It can also be difficult to establish liability in the event of breakage or accidents.

The system will be available on earthmoving, lifting and handling equipment and, said Kiloutou, is easy to install and set up.

Fabrice Morereau of BEEI DM, a small electrical and mechanical contractor, said the system was popular with its site teams; 鈥淔irst, the solution is not at all restrictive; it鈥檚 very easy to use. Second, it allows our employees to find the equipment where we left it. They can be sure that it hasn鈥檛 been used or moved.鈥
