The manufacturer recently finalised its deal to purchase Mark Desmedt, a specialist recycled aggregates producer based just outside Brussels.

Mark Desmedt, which was founded in 1989 and entered the ready-mix concrete market in 2001, recycles over 500,000 tons of construction and demolition waste from both the Brussels and Antwerp metropolitan areas every year.

While the value of the purchase was not disclosed, the addition of Mark Desmedt to Holcim鈥檚 business portfolio aims to help the company achieve its goal of recycling 10 million tons of C&D waste materials a year.

Miljan Gutovic, CEO at Holcim, said: 鈥淲ith the Mark Desmedt team, we are accelerating our vision to drive circular construction in the key metropolitan areas where we operate to build cities from cities.

鈥淪trategically located between Brussels and Antwerp, Mark Desmedt will scale up our ECOCycle technology across Belgium, making circularity a driver of profitable growth.

鈥淚 look forward to welcoming the employees of Mark Desmedt to Holcim and to investing in our next chapter of growth together鈥.

The purchase of the Belgian recycler is the fourth such acquisition that Holcim has made to bolster its circular construction drive.

Earlier this year, the materials producer completed the acquisitions of Land Recycling in United Kingdom, Cand-Landi Group in Switzerland, and Mendiger Basalt in Germany.

Holcim to expand in Spain, UK and Greece The company announced three acquisitions in January to expand its offerings in Europe.
