Caterpillar has launched its newly upgraded D10 Dozer model, which is 6% more efficient and 3% more productive than its D10T2 predecessor, while also using 4% less fuel.聽

鈥淚ts combination of improved technology, longer component life, extended oil changes and increased serviceability reduces maintenance and repair costs up to 8%, helping the new D10 deliver industry-leading low cost of ownership,鈥 said the manufacturer.

Updates to the 70-tonne, tracked D10 include a Stage V/Tier 4 Final-compliant Cat C27 engine, that has been engineered to switch power settings based on the machine鈥檚 direction of travel, allowing it provide up to 20% more power in reverse and lower cycle times.

The model also features load-sensing hydraulics that deliver more power to the ground for increased responsiveness, as well as a redesigned torque converter with stator clutch that automatically 鈥渇rees up the stator when torque multiplication is not required to reduce fuel consumption鈥.

A standout feature of the machine鈥檚 design is that its major components - including the frame and powertrain - have been 鈥渂uilt to be rebuilt using new, remanufactured or used parts and components鈥.

Caterpillar says this means the model delivers 鈥渁 cost-effective second life of like-new performance at a fraction of the price鈥.

Key fleet management benefits for contractors and rental companies alike are the model鈥檚 easy servicing and maintenance features.

In addition to replaceable push-arm trunnion bearing inserts, the D10 has a reengineered engine compartment with a single-plane cooling system that is up to 30% more resistant to plugging, and an easy-access radiator door that helps with cleaning tasks.

An oil pan with 50% more capacity than that of the previous dozer model has also been fitted. Cat says this improves average oil quality and extends change intervals by up to an additional 250 hours.

Offering a higher level of noise and vibration protection than previous designs, the D10鈥檚 cab features colour touchscreen displays that monitors the dozer鈥檚 performance and provides access to its operating parameters.

Standard systems onboard include dual-tilt and Automated Blade Assist (ABA), which automatically positions the blade according to pre-programmed load, carry and spread positions.

A range of technologies intended to increase efficiency and reduce downtime have also been incorporated, with Remote Flash and Remote Troubleshoot included as standard.

According to Cat, Remote Troubleshoot enables equipment dealers to run machine diagnostic testing remotely while the machine is in operation, and Remote Flash allows them to remotely update the dozer鈥檚 software.

Described by Cat as being 鈥渇uture-ready to integrate tomorrow鈥檚 technology鈥, the D10 also comes factory-ready to be integrated with Cat鈥檚 MineStar Terrain and MineStar Command systems for remote operation, while optional technologies - such as AutoCarry, Cat Grade Control 3D and Automatic Ripper Control - can also be added.
