The project to replace the two bridges, both built in 1951 and nearing the end of their service lives, is , with $200 million in funding coming from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Yonkers Contracting announced in May that it had been appointed for the design and build project.

In addition to replacing the bridge that carries the Bronx River Parkway over East Tremont Avenue and the bridge over East 180th Street, Morris Park Avenue and an adjacent New York City Transit yard, the project also involves building a dedicated southbound exit ramp from the parkway to East 177th Street and a shared path that connects to the Bronx River Greenway for pedestrians and cyclists.

The modern structures will feature redundant steel girders, stainless-steel reinforced concrete decks, concrete piers, fewer bridge joints and other features intended to reduce their long-term maintenance costs and harden their resistance to the impacts of climate change and severe weather.

The project will also include the installation of new stormwater drainage facilities and updated curbs, ramps, and sidewalks to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Additionally, Morris Park Avenue from East 180th Street to Melville Street will be resurfaced, along with sections of the Bronx River Parkway adjacent to and between the bridges undergoing replacement.
